There are infinite ways to be a non-partisan voter

The duopoly doesn't compete for voters, but is that because there are countless ways to be “middle”? If non-partisan voters’ principles and positions don’t fall on existing party-lines, the permutations of policies these voters agree/disagree with is messy and not capture-able in a few neat party platforms.
