mount blade, hold next to your side with blade touching ground.
- lower handle should be around belly button
- upper handle should be around chin/lips
hold loosely in both hands. drop lower handle so blade is pointing forward. left hand loose.
- right fingers should just brush lower handle.
- blade lay should be belly down, cutting edge about 1/2“ or less off the ground. nose pointed up a bit
technique:
Bending knees for better/lower cut: She said she had a similar issue when she was starting out. Her mentor (Richard, from the videos) said, “just don’t bend your knees! see what happens”. And she eventually figured out.
- keep hands loose
- move hands from back pocket to back pocket - this helps keeps cutting edge on the ground.
- don’t lift blade! we have a tendency to lift. maybe try applying downward pressure to the blade. may end up “going aground” more often and having to hone.
maybe get grass blade. also: a grass blade that is only used for softer material will stay sharper longer, too.
takes a long time to be able to mow soft grass.
