Induction

Given a sample Cause and an Effect, induce a Rule that explains it.

  • given cause: it’s cloudy.
  • observed effect: it rains.
  • Induced rule: “when it’s cloudy, it rains”

Non truth-preserving

The cause of the observed effect may be something else! It may be cloudy, but the rain could be coming from a sprinkler - and it turns out clouds don’t ever cause rain.
