Don’t abolish the police top-down
We want to see fewer police, but only as a result of fixing the upstream problems that are putting the police there in the first place.
It’s like a fever - you don’t want to remove a fever if your body is dealing with a pathogen. The fever in this case is not a problem to solve of itself, it is a painful tool being used against a different problem. You don’t dehydrate a person who is suffering from pneumonia in order to “dry them out”. This knee-jerk medicine would work just as well as knee-jerk social policy.
