We spend a lot of energy on coordinating our collective society. society-would-save-time-and-money-if-not-cohabitating. In the extreme, a-society-that-only-perpetuates-itself-does-nothing at all aside from perpetuate itself.
Is it the perfect characterization for America? the country whose main export is its culture - it exists to perpetuate its own meme, and its own meme is simply: hey, look at our big weird coordination system and how free and awesome it is! In the worst light, you could see it like a zombie virus that seeks to take over the whole world and make all of humanity into a society-perpetuating machine with no greater purpose.
There’s something almost magical, or Darwinian, or egregorian about this.
