Rent-Seekers
A rent-seeker is someone whose source of wealth is non-productive. They create nothing for anyone else. It’s an “economist’s insult”. Rent-seekers are a debasement of market morality. When rent-seeking dominates a market, it is one of the elements that prevent that market from lifting people up.
That said, it is understood that market failure (of which rent seekers are a symptom) is an expected part of every market.
