Monastic Philosophy of Deep Work

Radically minimize or eliminate shallow obligations. Permanently. That’s right, permanently.
Donald Knuth hasn’t had an email account at all for decades. He explains that his work requires too much prolonged concentration to afford any distractions that he doesn’t actively allow in. Neal Stephenson has a similar situation.

In this philosophy, the practitioner lives their whole life in a state that allows for easy transition into Deep Work and all but guarantees sustained sessions free from interruption as well as a near-complete avoidance of shallow work and minutiae.
